How Solar Pumps on Amazon Try to Trick the Consumer

Why are there so many solar water pumps on Amazon- and why are they so cheap? The easy answer is that Amazon relies on direct sales from foreign factories to fill up the online marketplace with cheap, tempting goods. And for $80 we could understand why anyone would open their wallet and say “what the hell, it can’t be that bad”. Or can it?

But we wanted to be fair to these companies,I mean they have 5 star reviews so someone in US must like what they’re buying. Unless those 5 star reviews are suspiciously written like someon who was PAID to write the review, or the 5 star reviews say they didn’t actually like the product, yet its still highly rated. Many of these companies don’t have any reviews even on their own websites, or accessible websites/ contact information outside of posting on Amazon. We’ve figured out that these brands have a system to avoid alerting consumers to the scam…

Post Cheap Water Pump on Amazon –> Pay For 4 or 5 Star Fake Reviews –> Keep Product Listing Up Until the Average Star Rating Drops Below About a 3 –> Repost Product Under Slightly Different Name or Brand –> Repeat

RPS is a solar pump company based in the US, with US employees and US support staff. We’ve become just as confused as to why all these imposter pumps are cropping up in US markets and wreaking havoc on consumers. So we decided to dig into the dark underbelly of solar pump amazon – hang on because you may not get your money back.

JENENSERIES CUSTOMER REVIEWS

JENENSERIES SOLAR WELL PUMP REVIEW FROM VERIFIED PURCHASE 4 out of 5 stars “Less than helpful instructions”

In several places the description of the pump states its output size is .75″ (3/4″). While it’s true that the actual pipe thread inside the output end of the pump is 3/4″ female pipe thread, the adapter included with the pump to screw into that opening is a 1″ hose barb fitting. Thus you need 1″ poly pipe to fit over that 1″ hose barb, and 1″ check valve if you’re using a pressure tank. I also found no instructions on how to wire a pressure switch into the controller when using a pressure tank. From reading websites for other brands of pumps, I found that they require a “reverse acting” pressure switch. I’m assuming the same applies to this pump, but it would be helpful to have that information in the instruction booklet.

JENENSERIES SOLAR WELL PUMP REVIEW FROM VERIFIED PURCHASE 2 out of 5 stars ” The controller failed. Well contact won’t work”

After 10 months of installation the well float failed and also the controller won’t trigger the proper stop logic. It will lock on one position regardless of the float position. Sadly unable to find a controller replacement. Won’t buy again.

BUYER BEWARE Warranty Tricks!

JENENSERIES solar pump warranty information is missing from the listing. This is a red flag and is most likely the reason that there are so many reviews saying that the pump broke and the company never responded.

Suspicious Listing Details and False Claims Made By JENENSERIES

False Claim #1 Pump is Powered By Charcoal??

JENESERIES claims in multiple places throughout the Amazon listing that the pump is powered by CHARCOAL of all things. Clearly, there was a glitch during translation.

False Claim #2 Expect to Receive 7.9 GPM at 300 feet of Head

JENENSERIES claims that the pump has a total head ability of 393 feet and 7.9 GPM. Multiple reviews have stated their flow rates, some that are closer to the claims made by JENESERIES, and some far under what the consumer would expect. There is also no information about how many solar panels or the amount of power suggested to power these systems at specific head ratings other than the system should be 48V. Leaves a big questions mark as to what kind of solar panels to use and how to hook the entire system up.

Suspicious Listing Detail #3 Clearly Made in China

We found this picture of a JENENSERIES 270W pump box on Ebay, where they also list products. The box shows that the pumps country of origin is CHINA.

Suspicious Listing Detail #3 All Reviews Are From 2022

Be sure there are reviews over 5 years old. Any less is likely it won’t last that long or company is “Brand-Swapping” to bury old reviews. JENENSERIES seems to have been around for a few years now, at least since the beginning of 2020, but only have reviews from 2022 and a few from late 2021, very likely they have wiped the older bad reviews and tried to start anew.

Watch out for new profiles that have 5 or 10 five star reviews and very little written (if anything) for text. If you don’t see a mix of reviews written in real english with photos, trust your instincts and beware. These will likely get shut down by Amazon once they figure it out. This company has paid to get reviews. Watch out for reviews close to the same dates all around the same time. And watch out for bad english and typos. These reviewers are usually international ones. Read all reviews, good and bad!

Suspicious Listing Detail #3 JENENSERIES sells Lots of other products that aren’t pumps – generalists, lack of specialty or knowledge of actual products means no help when you need it

JENENSERIES also sells chainsaws and portable power stations.

We’ve all seen these before. We are looking for a phone charger and we think we find a company that specializes in decent phone chargers – something that will last for at least a few months until we lose it in the truck! So we click into the company selling it and they sell water bottles, soccer balls and Koi fish in Chinese. Huh? There are so many of these now. Generalist shops that list everything you can imagine in their online ‘store’ and actually don’t know anything about any of it. This is fine for cheaper products and maybe even this phone charge but for anything that we want to last and that we expect to be reliable that we are spending our hard earned money on, we want a company that knows what they are talking about. That means they can support you in choosing the right product, support you if you run into trouble and know that you are getting something a bunch of smart people have thoughtfully designed. We want quality things that are made by experts in their fields. Not generalists that try everything from an overseas industrial park office. In the following section we list all the red flags that we have learned over the years, both from customers and their horror stories, but also with our own knowledge of the industry and how hard it is to build and support great products that last. And deliver exemplary customer support. Here are those things. In practice sometimes you will notice that a product page has more red flags than not. Great. Move on. It’s not that there aren’t great product on Amazon we just think its a race to the bottom – it’s a race to cheaper and cheaper and it’s so cheap now in some markets that there is no longer any way for US companies to sell on Amazon and it’s just low quality shops overseas slinging junk that won’t last.

Instead of cheap pumps that historically fail, go with an American company with a history of supporting the people!
