But don’t take our word for it. Watch back-to-the-land rockstars Red Poppy Ranch and Busted Wagon install RPS water systems. They say it better than we could!

These guys have used the RPS 400 and the RPS 800 for their Off Grid water. You can get pump sizing and pricing here on the website to ensure you have the proper size selected.
I highly recommended a friend call RPS and do it right the first time. Everything is running beautifully I couldnt be happier. Ill continue to praise you guys to others as often as I can.

Everything went very well. Install took less than 2 hours. Was surprised how well it was pumping. Very happy with the product and customer service. There has been a few friends checking it out. Thanks

How Solar Pumps Work

When the sun shines on the surface of your solar panels, the movement of electrons generates DC power which is transferred through attached wires to the pump controller.
The pump controller is the brains of the system and with sophisticated technology and sensor inputs, it turns the submersible motor and drives the pump to push water against gravity to the surface.
Solar pumps are sized by calculating the total vertical feet they’ll need to push water, the pressure they need to generate, and the total water required each day.

Before RPS, upgrading to solar-powered pumping required you to...
#1. Pay top dollar for a contractor to buy and install everything for you, or
#2. Scrape together a piecemeal system on your own with components found online.
Most people are looking for a way to avoid the high cost of #1, but also want to avoid the frustration and inconvenience of #2. RPS provides a happy medium between the two. DIY + RPS = success! With a combination of your do-it-yourself skills and our quality parts and engineers—available to back you up by phone, text, and email—you’ll have your system up and running in no time. RPS is your teammate in planning and installing your solar pump system, and we’ll continue to support you down the road if you need it. Saving you time and money is what we do at RPS.
IN GOOD COMPANY
RPS Off-Grid Customers have saved 8332 miles of power lines and gotten back about 2000 hours of peace and quiet without a loud polluting generator, massively their impact and carbon footprint and created hundreds of satisfying moments of satisfaction at the end of a long productive day off-grid.
You can install yourself in a single afternoon. No scheduling expensive installers and having them get lost on their way to your land. Pump and enjoy peace and quiet at the same time.

RPS Never Stops Improving
Our engineering culture runs deep with both our owners. Each winter our engineering team comes together to improve our systems even more. Combining customer feedback and R&D from the year, we improve the model offered for the next year without increasing prices. We love solar and we use these systems ourselves. We hope our passion at RPS for solar well pumps is contagious.
RPS Maintains Affordability
With RPS there are no middlemen or distributers so more money stays in your pockets. Systems are self-installed keeping costs down. We honor our veterans (many on our sales team have served) and non-profits with additional % discounts and bulk discounts for larger ranches.
OUR PLEDGES TO YOU
- Be a company our Grandfathers would have trusted. The trend of ‘outsourcing’ customer support after the sale is a trend we wholeheartedly oppose. We are an American, family run company and our USA engineers support you before and after the sale.
- No sales pressure. Ever. Nobody in the company is paid on commission. We think this is important. Their role is to make sure they find the right pump for you and your well. If we don’t have a pump that will suit your needs, we will help you find a solution elsewhere. Our job is to help get you water.
- Reliable Water. All manufactured products have occasional issues and we can’t claim to be perfect. However, we are proud of a near perfect track record in getting our customers water. This starts with selling a pump sized for your usage with our Water Assurance Plan and promptly addressing warranty issues to get you up and pumping again quickly.
- Give you the power! When you control your ability to pump water out of the ground, whether that is in the field or at home, it makes you more resilient and independent. We are here to help educate you about solar water pumping and our systems over the phone, with our manual, and our great videos online, so you can install yourself. Take control of your water supply today.

Redundant / Backup Well Pump in Existing Well

Increasingly popular is putting a second pump down in the same well casing. Must have a 5″ or larger casing diameter to fit a 2″ solar well pump down the well. The diagram above shows pumping to a frost-proof hydrant for emergency water. This could also be plumbed to a storage tank or cistern for a surplus of available water. The solar pump can be set in the often large area between the water level and the existing AC pump. It’s often recommended lowering pump on flexible poly pipe for tight casings.
Redundant Well Pump in Existing Well

With a 2″ solar well pump many customers also opt for redundancy and plumb into their existing pressure tank system. With 2 well pumps available to pump into the same bladder tank, you can set the pressure cut-offs of the pressure switches (Labeled A & B above) to prioritize either the solar pump or the AC pump. Or keep one or the other powered down unless it’s needed.
Backup Shallow Well Jet Pump (Bypass)

For shallow wells that utilize a foot valve and a shallow well jet pump, the RPS Solar Tankless Pressure Pump™ can provide redundancy to your existing AC powered jet pump. Gate valves can be used to allow the bypassing of your AC system and pressure tank. Or by adjusting the pressure of your existing pressure switch and that of your adjustable Tankless Pressure Pump, you can prioritize one pump or the other.
Backup Pressure Pump (Bypass)

When pumping from a cistern or an above-ground storage tank, the RPS Solar Tankless Pressure Pump™ can provide water pressure redundancy to your existing AC booster pump. Gate valves can be used to allow the bypassing of your AC system and pressure tank. Or by adjusting the pressure of your existing pressure switch and that of your adjustable Tankless Pressure Pump, you can prioritize one pump or the other.

Pumping into Elevated Tank for Gravity Pressure

This installation is the simplest way to get 24hr water pressure with any RPS Solar Well Pumps. (if you have elevation on your property) Install plumbing from well pipe to your elevated tank with a check valve on the pump to ensure the water doesn’t siphon back down into well from tank. Each 2.31 ft of elevation the tank has above your house gives you 1 psi. Most like at least 35 psi (80 ft tank elevation) to give faucets, appliances and shower heads adequate pressure.
Pumping into Storage then Pressurizing with Tankless Pressure Pump

A very popular technique for people without elevation, this installation method involves a solar filled storage tank with any RPS Solar Well Pump, and a solar-charged battery powered booster pump (Tankless Pressure Pump™) to pressurize the water from a storage tank. The pump has a built in pressure switch that will turn itself off automatically when faucets are closed and back on when a faucet is opened. No need for a pressure tank!
Pumping into Pressure Tank

This installation uses solar charged batteries to drive your well pump. Most popular are the the RPS 400 and RPS 800 which operate very efficiently at 48 volts. (4 batteries) A reverse action pressure switch wires to the RPS Controller and when your solar pump fills the pressure tank to the proper psi, it will turn the solar pump off. Whenever the pump is not running, the solar panels are charging the batteries, providing for power and water whenever you need it. Whenever there is a pressure drop (open faucet, washer, shower etc) the pressure switch will activate the pump to refill the tank and keep the pressure up.
