Before buying a pump based on your well’s total depth, make sure you check out the diagram below. Your well pump size (system size as it will include solar panels to support the pump) will be dependent on the distance from the ‘Static Water Level’ up to the top of the tank you are storing the water. This includes any elevation from the top of the well to the tank and the tank height. Some wells are 600 feet deep but the water depth is only at 150 ft. This difference allows you a much smaller well pump then you’d first think. If you are using a pressure tank, be sure to factor in 2.31 feet for every 1 psi you want in your tank.
